Position Overview

GreenSpark Finance is building a world-class, tech-enabled accounting and CFO services firm for growing CPG and eCommerce brands. Our clients sell across Shopify, Amazon, TikTok, wholesale, and other channels, giving our team the opportunity to solve complex accounting problems. We pair experienced accountants with carefully tested automation to deliver accurate, timely financial reporting for our clients.

We are looking for a Client Accountant who can take ownership of monthly accounting and close work across multiple clients while helping us test and improve accounting automation. About 60% of the role will focus on client accounting and 40% on helping design and test accounting tools, checking their outputs, and building reliable workflows. As you grow into the role, you’ll also help review and guide work completed by other team members.

Responsibilities

Client Accounting (approximately 60%)

• Support full-cycle accounting for multiple client accounts, primarily CPG and eCommerce businesses.

• Own assigned monthly close work, including transaction review and classification, accruals, journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and reporting tie-outs; review supporting work for completeness and accuracy.

• Work on revenue and marketplace clearing, inventory and cost of goods sold, prepaids, fixed assets, debt, and other accounting areas as applicable to each client.

• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, client billing and collections workflows as assigned.

• Prepare or review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules; investigate unusual balances and explain findings to the client team.

• Support client financial reviews and audits as needed by preparing schedules, gathering documentation and helping resolve follow-up questions.

• Maintain clear workpapers, documentation and deadlines across client accounts. Help train and review work completed by other team members.

Accounting Automation (approximately 40%)

• Help design and test tools and workflows for transaction coding, bank and credit card reconciliations, close tasks, account analysis and reporting.

• Compare automated outputs to source records and independently prepared results; document errors, exceptions and edge cases.

• Give specific feedback to our technology and accounting teams on what works, what fails and what needs a human review step.

• Help define practical requirements, test cases and controls before a workflow is used in client delivery.

• Create or improve templates, instructions and repeatable processes; help teammates adopt workflows that prove accurate and useful.
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field and at least three years of hands-on accounting experience, including ownership of monthly close work.

• Sound understanding of accounting principles, balance sheet reconciliations and the monthly close.

• Strong attention to detail and a habit of checking your work against source records, resolving discrepancies and catching issues before work is submitted for review.

• Experience with eCommerce accounting, including Shopify, Amazon or TikTok, is a plus.

• Strong Excel skills and experience with QuickBooks Online; familiarity with BILL or similar tools is helpful.

• Comfort managing deadlines across multiple clients and communicating progress and blockers promptly.

• Comfortable using AI tools for accounting, analysis or Excel work, with curiosity about new ways to improve accounting workflows and the judgment to check outputs against source data. Programming experience is not required.

• Experience reviewing the work of other accountants, providing clear feedback and improving handoffs across teams.

• Experience with process improvement, software implementation, quality assurance or testing accounting systems. Prior experience testing accounting automation or AI tools that work alongside spreadsheets is a plus.
